Piermarini in Milan. The Drawings of Foligno

From 30 May to 28 July 2024 at Palazzo Reale (Milan), Appartamento dei Principi

Palazzo Reale hosts the exhibition "Piermarini in Milan. The drawings of Foligno", which celebrates the work of the architect Giuseppe Piermarini, one of the leading figures of Italian architecture of the eighteenth century. Its neoclassical influence lives on in the main buildings of Milan and Lombardy.

The exhibition presents a collection of preparatory drawings from the Piermarinian Fund of the Library of Foligno, his hometown, covering the period from his early studies in Rome to his great works in Lombardy, with particular attention paid to Milan and the Royal Palace itself. Also on display are some architectural models from Palazzo Trinci in Foligno; the construction of Palazzo Belgioioso and above all the maquettes of the scenic arch of La Scala and the court theater (of Palazzo Reale), in collaboration with the Historical and Artistic Archives of the Teatro alla Scala; in Lombardy, the construction of the Villa Reale in Monza, the Academy of Mantua and the modernization of the University of Pavia.
Studio Rufus would like to thank the architect Valter Palmieri for involving our staff in the insertion and framing of Piermarini's drawings.
